| Mission statement | Selected seminars of the Executive Master of Public Management (EMPM) are also open to experienced professionals who wish to deepen and extend their public management competence. By attending a series of four seminars, participants can also obtain a certificate, thus allowing a real specialisation. One of the guiding principles of the seminars is to reflect current challenges and best-practices of public management, while ensuring the best academic quality. |
| Main target group(s) | Participants of the EMPM - and thus also of the open seminars - are experienced professionals from the public and the private sector as well as from non-profit organisations. Lawyers, economists, social scientists as well as natural scientists gain additional insights of other disciplines. |
| Main objectives | The programme is designed to increase the knowledge and skills of professionals who seek to enhance their public service careers or to move to a leadership position in an organisation with strong links to the public sector. It focuses on current leadership challenges and combines expertise in public administration with public policy knowledge, as well as management tools. |
| Pedagogical methods | Our Programme offers participants both sound theoretical knowledge and tangible management skills.
Unlike courses in public institutions of higher education, this programme draws on a modern mix of methods and emphasises practical applications. Students dissect case studies, work in groups and constantly pool experience with both lecturers and fellow participants. E-learning and a Web-based learning system enable students with jobs to combine work and study to an optimal extent. |
| What sets you appart from your competitors ? | Professionals who would like to improve or acquire certain public management competences often do not have the time to follow a complete a master‘s programme. EMPM Open Seminars and Certificates provide a practical solution.
By combining selected compact seminars, participants can obtain one of four certificates that focus on a certain key competence. All credits earned can be transferred to the Master’s programme, should participants consider enrolment in the programme at a later stage. |
| Additional information about this programme | All seminars are part of the EMPM, which is an accredited programme. Courses take place in the centre of Berlin and are held in English. Participants profit from the experience of an international team of lecturers from all sectors. They are introduced to concepts and tools and discuss how to apply them to their specific work context. Courses are offered in a compact 2- to 3-day format, making it easy to integrate them into daily work life, also for professionals from outside Germany. |
